Fristads

The world’s first environmentally declared clothes collection at Nordbygg 2022

The first environmentally declared clothes collection in the world will be presented at Nordbygg in April. Behind the collection are Fristads, one of the fair’s most loyal exhibitors. For 2022, sustainability is at the forefront and the stand will among other things present the latest news from Fristads Green – High Visibility Green. Products where the whole production line is characterised by environmental awareness and innovation to leave the smallest possible footprint.

Fristads returns to Nordbygg this Spring and has stocked up with exciting new products, focussing on sustainability and the environment. Their collection Fristads Green is the world’s first environmentally declared clothes collection and was launched for the first time in 2019. Since then, they have launched three collections for craftsmen, industry and outerwear. The fourth will be here at the turn of the year.

– In 2018 we were given an assignment from management so look at how we can make more environmentally friendly products. We started investigating how to measure this and what the market looked like. We found EPDs, environmental products declarations, that are used a lot in construction but have not been applicable to textiles. Our product department contacted RISE and together we developed the model for how we can apply EPDs to clothes, explains Sofia Wackling, Marketing Manager at Fristads Sverige.

An environmental declaration measures a garments total effect on the environment, from production to finished product.

– We look at everything from fibres, the amount of material, the dying process and how much water or electricity production consumes, as well as all transport routes. Everything is gathered in a report which has been reviewed by a third party, where you can see how much water or CO2 equivalents have been saved through choosing a garment from Fristads Green collection compared to a traditionally produced garment in the same category, Sofia explains.

Take the lead on sustainability

Fristads has invested greatly in their sustainability work the past few years and are aiming at being seen as the most sustainable company in the industry.

– We really are trying to take the lead on sustainability and Fristads Green’s goal is to continue this work and develop more sustainable products in all segments. Despite your category of work, you should be able to choose sustainable garments. It is important to us that the garments meet the same requirements and are just as good as ordinary garments. There should be no excuse not to choose the sustainable alternative, says Sofia.

Fristads has exhibited at Nordbygg for many years and a lot has happened in the company since the last fair was arranged. When Nordbygg takes place this Spring, Fristads’ stand will focus on sustainability and will present news from Fristads Green.

– We were already planning for the fair in 2020, so now we are really looking forward to this type of events. It is a possibility to meet the industry and our customers, but also to look at trends and see what others have coming up, Sofia Wackling closes.
