The certification system Svanen at Nordbygg’s new materials stage
Nordbygg will be launching an new Sustainable Material Stage at the fair in 2024. The program will focus on sustainable material, circular building design and recycled materials. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is one of the partners that emphasizes the importance of knowledge exchange and networking at the fair.
The demand for life cycle analyses and highly set sustainability goals from both customers and financiers have contributed to the fact that more and more actors in the construction and property industry need to relate to certification systems. There are multiple certification systems for buildings with large discrepancies in both scope and demands, one of them is Svanen.
Liv Ljungqvist, operative project manager at Nordbygg, explains how the certification systems and materials go together:
– The certification systems often place great weight by materials in the building, that is why their representatives have a natural place as exhibitors by the materials stage. Some feel that it’s a jungle out there among the actors. That is why it’s so unbelievably clever of Svanen to be there to explain their particular system directly to interested actors at Nordbygg.
Svanen calls itself the official environmental certification in the Nordics, which means that they have an independent and non-profit government mission.
– Many associate Svanen with environmental certification of consumables such as detergent, and are not familiar with Svanen certified housing, schools and nurseries. Over the last two years, the number of Svanen certified buildings in the Nordics have doubled, says Stefan Björling, business area manager at Miljömärkning Sverige (Environmental certification Sweden) responsible for Svanen.
